Michael Obuchowski, Ph.D., Principal & Portfolio Manager
Dr. Michael Obuchowski and his business partner Nicholas Jones
founded Altanes Investments in September 2003. Dr. Obuchowski
was previously the Director of Research and a Portfolio Manager at
Ashland Management Incorporated. In addition, Dr. Obuchowski
brings with him over 15 years of experience in academic research in
healthcare and biotechnology. During his years in academic
research, Dr. Obuchowski developed an extensive expertise in
advanced quantitative analysis.
In January 2002, Dr. Obuchowski joined Ashland as a Vice President
and Portfolio Manager. Dr. Obuchowski’s primarily responsibility
was to conduct an extensive quantitative evaluation of Ashland’s
investment process, work on the development of new quantitative
investment management products and new product distribution
channels. As a member of the Investment Committee, he specialized
in the healthcare and technology sectors. He was also involved in
quarterly investment reviews, investment process presentations,
and the management of the firm’s clients’ portfolios.
Prior to Dr. Obuchowski’s position at Ashland Management, he was
an Assistant Professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in
New York and Associate Director of the Recognition and Prevention
Program at Schneider Children’s Hospital. He was the recipient of
many awards, including the Young Investigator Award from
NARSAD. Dr. Obuchowski was a co-founder of Biobehavioral
Technologies, Inc., a software company which developed tools used
in clinical research by major pharmaceutical companies and
researchers around the world.
Dr. Obuchowski has developed extensive relationships within the
financial news industry. He appears regularly on Bloomberg Radio,
Bloomberg Television, Business News Network (BNN) and has
been profiled and cited in many trade publications and newspapers.
He is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, CFA
Institute, Investment Management Consultants Association,
Association of Investment Management Sales Executives and the
Society of Quantitative Analysts.

New School University in New York and did his internship in
Clinical Neuropsychology at Columbia University’s College of
Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.
